Introduction: Alzheimer's disease is one of the age related diseases. The main cause of which is the formation of beta amyloid (Aβ) plaques and hyperphosphorylated tau protein. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a member of the neurotrophin family that plays a key role in the growth, health and survival of neurons. The amount of beta amyloid plaques in the human central nervous system increases and the amount of BDNF decreases with increasing age. The results of studies on the positive adaptations of Physical exercise in Alzheimer’s patients have conflicting results. Therefore, the effect of Physical exercises has not been well defined in Alzheimer's patients. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Physical exercises on the levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor and beta amyloid plaques.
Materials and Methods: This study aims to investigate the effect of physical exercises on the levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor and beta amyloid plaques. It has studied and analyzed the number of 12 research articles that have been prepared from reliable scientific databases and draws conclusions.
Results: Regular long term physical exercises cause a significant increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor and they cause a significant decrease in beta amyloid plaques in Alzheimer's patients.
Conclusion: Performing physical exercises enhances BDNF by increasing the secretion of osteocalcin and irisin hormones and increasing lactate production. Moreover, it reduces beta amyloid plaques.
