Introduction: Resistance increase to a variety of antibiotics has caused microbiology researchers to develop new ways instead of the conventional treatment methods for preventing bacterial infections. Nowadays, Phages or bacterial contaminant particles are using as an efficient method in the treatment of many infectious diseases. The uses of live bacteriophages in the treatment of fatal diseases, that caused by Gram positive and negative bacteria, have been mentioned in various reports. Modern methods of genetic engineering improve the efficiency of phages in treatment of bacterial infections. Using these methods are one of the most important aspects of phase therapy for the prevention of bacterial infections. Phages were capable of destroying the cell wall of bacteria by producing lysosomal enzymes. Moreover, they can be used to reduce the rate of growth of bacterial infections.
Methods and Materials: This review article is a content analysis study that has been performed by searching phage therapy and antibiotic resistance in the related articles in reliable sites and books in this regard.
Results: The use of bacteriophage, as new method to limit the growth of bacteria, cause infectious diseases that create new perspectives in the development of new drugs to reduce the bacterial infections.
Discussion and Conclusion: Although, the use of phages, as new drugs in restricting the growth of bacterial infections, has high priority and importance, it seems to need more research in this area. In addition, more developed techniques should be done to evaluate and design new phages.
