Introduction: This study investigated the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) on improving depressive symptoms, quality of life, and resilience in families of cancer patients.

Materials and Methods: Thirty family members of cancer patients, diagnosed by a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist as having non-clinical psychological distress, voluntarily participated and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Participants completed the Beck Depression Inventory, the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale as a pilot test. The experimental group received eight sessions of MBCT, while the control group was placed on a waiting list.

Results: Multivariate analysis of covariance revealed that MBCT significantly improved depressive symptoms, quality of life, and resilience among family members of cancer patients.

Conclusion: Increasing mindfulness and observational awareness reduces self-focused attention, leading to decreases in negative emotions such as depression and stress. This improvement in emotional regulation enhances resilience and consequently improves quality of life.
